King Lecture Series (Dean Kagan) - October 6, 2008
In the most recent event held by
the NHSCS, Elena Kagan, Dean of Harvard Law School
spoke in the second installment of the John W. King Lecture Series.
In Dean Kagan's speech she spoke
about Harvard's current curriculum changes. She spoke on the current need
to change the way lawyers are trained. Kagan explained how the training of
future lawyers "has an effect far beyond both lawyers and the legal
profession, extending to every one of you and in fact, to everyone in this
country and the world beyond it."
Along with Dean Kagan's speech on
Harvard's current curriculum changes the Society also displayed some
recently discovered art work made by Chief Justice Robert Peaslee. The
exhibit displayed drawings that depicted court officials and plaintiffs
that Chief Justice Roberts Peaslee saw while serving on from 1900-1902
while acting as an associate justice for the Supreme Court.
Society members Hon. Philip S. Hollman, chair of the NH Bar
Foundation, Justice John T. Broderick Jr., Chief Justice of the NH Supreme
Court, and Dean John D. Hutson, president and dean of Franklin Pierce Law Center all spoke briefly during the event.
Sponsored by a Justice grant from the New Hampshire Bar Association
