Dedication of Souter Conference Room - July 9, 2008
On July 9, about 50 friends
and colleagues of Supreme Court Justice David Hackett Souter gathered for
the dedication of a conference room in his name. Throughout the 45
minute event, Souter listened to friends extol his standing as a judge and
legal thinker and share humorous accounts of the reclusive Judge's
personality.
Souter then spoke of his feelings for New Hampshire and for
the profound feelings he had for the court where he served before his
ascendancy to the federal bench, "This is my home ground and I am very
honored today." Souter was appointed to the US Supreme Court in 1990,
after serving briefly on the US Court of Appeals for the 1st
Circuit in Boston.
The dedication, sponsored by the New Hampshire Supreme Court
Society, included the revealing of a plaque dedicating the conference room
for Justice Souter, in recognition of his judicial service to the state
and the nation. The plaque was unveiled by Mrs. Loretta Kenison, whose
late husband Frank Rowe Kenison served on the state Supreme Court for 31
years, including 25 years as Chief Justice, many of which he served
alongside Justice Souter.
